1.2e-3 (Dec14, 2000) |
Compliant with
BXI Chug 'n Play Ô
Standard |
| The
only beer standard adopted by instrumentation
engineers worldwide |
| I. BXI Overview |
| BXI is the brainchild of Cal-Bay
Systems Inc., a National Instruments Alliance member
located in Northern California, who found that after
8 years of instrumentation software and hardware
integration, the best way to enhance an automation
system of any kind, is with an ice cold beer. This
universal discovery led to the launch of the first
BXI prototype (a 6 pack of handcrafted micro brew)
in October of 1998. The industry requirements for
this new platform were inherently evident and the
BXI standard was formally established in December
of 1998 with the launch of BXI version 1.0.
|
| The success of BXI version 1.0
(a disguised beta test) encouraged further industry
research and an unprecedented development effort
to design and deliver a platform for Engineers,
by Engineers who know what they are going through.
BXI version 2.0 will hit the market next
Quarter. It promises to be more robust than
version 1.0 with some signifigant new enhancements.
Particular attention has been paid to the anti-aliasing
(industry term - "beer goggle") filters, however
after careful research it was determined that system
aliasing was strictly due to operator error.
|
| The introduction of BXI version
2.0 will revolutionize the way you look at instrumentation... |

| II. Mechanical Specifications |
| 1. Form Factors |
 |
22 oz. Bottle - Also known
as the 6U form factor, will be able to accommodate
increased throughput and larger storage capacity.
Applications include - lunch break pick-me-up,
afternoon commute. |
 |
12 oz. bottle – plugs easily
into any Chug 'n Play Ô compatible system.
Provides simple low cost, high speed, rapid
access. Applications include - quick chug
during reboot, just a splash with the morning
coffee. |
 |
1/2 Keg– This is not easily
ported to other platforms and therefore it
is only recommended for large proprietary
installations of Chug 'n Play Ô systems (i.e.
NIWeek). |
|
| 2. Connector Specifications |
 |
For compatibility with other
Chug 'n Play Ô systems, BXI beer shall have
a standard beer cap and a wide-mouth bus for
extended throughput to digestive tract. A
standard, off-the-shelf connector tool (opener)
can be used to facilitate system connection
requirements. 6U form factor shall be fully
compatible and thoroughly tested with automotive
industry cup holders. |

| III. Communication
Specifications |
| Communication during BXI system
installations has undergone major enhancements over
earlier platforms. Increased level of camaraderie
has been noted in most installations, although skewing
of data (random replacement of actual data with
imaginary data) has been extremely prevalent. BXI
supports word-serial, as well as register level
data communication, but the most widely used format
seems to be anecdotal slurring. |
| |
| IV. Triggering |
| BXI systems support a full range
of triggering. Unlike previous industry platforms
that support level and edge triggering, the BXI
platform supports event triggering. Discrete user
inputs can be used to trigger a range events. Events
that are currently supported: |
 |
Afternoon nap |
 |
Frequent trips to lavatory |
 |
Munchies |
 |
Loss of memory followed by
system boot - extreme case |
|
| |
| V. Software Specifications |
| The BXI software is considered
the heart of the BXI system. BXI has been specifically
programmed to reduce stress, enhance productivity,
revive inner happiness, and provide a sense of tranquility
to all automation system installations. This new
standard has been motivated by a need in the industry
for something more than wires, circuits, and diagrams.
BXI installations have witnessed severe declines
in cases of "End User Rage". And
in certain instances, BXI users report projects
actually going smoothly. The BXI system software
allows end users the mental adjustment necessary
to design and develop the complex automation systems
of the new millennium. |
| Relax; tell your boss you're going
to "configure a BXI system". |
| |
| VI. General Observations |
| The people who invented the BXI
standard do not abuse it. They are hard working
people who know how to have fun and when to have
fun. As in any instrumentation platform, improper
use will lead to system crash. Drink Smart. Work
Hard. Be Happy. |
