Cal-Bay Systems, a leading supplier of integrated automated test solutions for DVT and Functional Test, has announced the release of a LabVIEW driver which standardizes test data across medical device OEM’s and their supply chain. The toolkit was built in collaboration with IntraStage and National Instruments, leveraging the most common file formats in the industry (XML and TDMS) to create a unified schema that can eliminate over 90% of all programming NRE associated with linking automated test equipment with databases.
“This software is a completely different paradigm from traditional test software development,” says Patrick Kelly, VP of Strategy at Cal-Bay. “Today, most test engineers invent their own test data format, whether with tab delimited files or a homegrown database. And after inventing it, they spend hours coding the test software to output in the new format. At Cal-Bay, we wanted all of our LabVIEW developers to code in the same way and same format, and we needed all of our test equipment to seamlessly transition into a database – without SQL programming.”
The new toolkit is available with web-based training, and it utilizes industry best practices for data capture, code re-use and database integration. The data files can be pulled natively into IntraStage server software as well as National Instruments’ DIAdem analysis software. Once inside the IntraStage server, business intelligence is provided through hundreds of built-in web reports, with additional capability to mine the data and export to tools like Microsoft Office, Matlab, Minitab, and PDF.
“Data files from functional testers are filled with information about product quality,” says Tom Armes, founder and CTO of IntraStage. “Cal-Bay’s toolkit allows test engineers to write better software and more efficiently turn the test data into useful reports.”
